A customs and logistics terminal is to be developed in the town of Kyakhta in Buryat Republic. An agreement on cooperation on the project was signed during the Eastern Economic Forum held this month in Vladivostok.
According to the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation, the facility is to be located at the international road border crossing checkpoint Kyakhta on the border between Russia and Mongolia. The investor intends to spend some 360 mn rubles ($6 mn) on the project.
At present, design works have been started. The terminal will incorporate open air and roofed heated warehouses, an office building, a trucking terminal equipped with specialized handling and weighing facilities, a radiation control system, and X-ray facilities for cargo control.
The project also envisages developing a truck parking lot and building a new highway and developing engineering infrastructure.
The first stage of the terminal is scheduled to be put into operation in 2023. By preliminary estimation, the daily traffic is expected to make no fewer than 300 trucks.
