Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad has laid the keel for a multifunctional Project MPSV06M rescue vessel for Russia’s Marine Rescue Service.
The 7 MWt Icebreaker 6 vessel with an unlimited sailing area will have its home port in Murmansk and will be deployed mainly in the Northern Sea Route. She will be named “Pevek” after one of the NSR ports.
The Marine Rescue Service currently operates two sisterships of “Pevek”, “Beringov Proliv” and “Murman” deploying them in northern seas.
“Pevek” will be built to a modernized MPSV06M design updated to comply with the latest regulations of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping issued in 2021 and the Polar Code.
The icebreaking rescue vessel will feature an accommodation superstructure located in the bow part and an engine room in the mid-part, a diesel-electric power unit, and a helipad.
The vessel will be capable of breaking ice up to 1.5 m thick in port basins and near ports as well as in non-Arctic sea conditions, fight fire on shore-based and floating objects accessible from sea, exploring seabed and faulty objects at a depth of up to 1,000 m.
