Coal and Coke Export Declines in January 2022

  • According to the RF Federal Customs Service, in January 2022 Russia exported 11.3 mn tons of coal, down 6.8% year-on-year. Month-on-month, coal export declined by 43.2%.

    In terms of value, coal export amounted to over $1.6 bn, up 2.1-fold year-on-year and down 33.9% month-on-month.

    Coal import during the period under report made 1.7 mn tons, up 11.1% year-on-year and down 9.1% month-on-month, worth $29.4 mn, down 6.1% year-on-year and down 41.1% month-on-month.

    Coke and coal char export in January 2022 made 215.6 thousand tons, down 23.2% year-on-year and down 41.1% month-on-month.

    The value of the exported coke and coal char made $103.9 mn, up 96.4% year-on-year and down 37.9% month-on-month.
