Russia Lifts Ban for Chinese Citrus Import

  • The RF Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Service has allowed citrus fruit import to Russia from China against the guarantees of the Chinese party w.e.f. February 3, 2022.

    The agency said the decision was after consultating with the competent body in China, studying the documents provided by Chinese citrus fruit growers, packers and distributors.

    The ban on importing citrus fruit from China was introduced by the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Service in January 2020 after a number of shipment were found infected with quarantine objects.

    Earlier, in October 2021, tangerine fruit import from Turkey was banned.

    According to the RF Federal Customs Service, Russia imported 1.71 mn tons of citrus fruit during 2021, up 0.6% year-on-year.
