Russian Transport System Freight Up 1.2% in January-July

  • During January-July 2021, cargo volume carried by all transport modes in the RF transport system was up 1.2% year-on-year to 4.37 bn tons.

    According to the RF Statistics Agency, the largest volume was carried by road, down 0.9% year-on-year to 2.9 bn tons.

    Rail cargo grew by 4.5% year-on-year up to 741.4 mn tons.

    Pipeline traffic was up 8.4% year-on-year to 662.9 mn tons.

    Sea freight decreased by 0.6% year-on-year down to 12.6 mn tons.

    Inland shipping volume declined by 4% year-on-year down to 53.8 mn tons.

    Air transport carried 0.8 mn tons, up 32.9% year-on-year.

    In July, cargo transportation volume by almost all of the transport modes increased month-on-month, the only exception being inland shipping.
