Azov and Black Sea Basin Throughput in July 2021: Sugar Up

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput via the Azov and Black Sea basin ports in July 2021 increased by 14.3% year-on-year. Import grew by 2.4%, export was up 15.6%, and transit up 18.7%. Cabotage, on the contrary, decreased by 4.3%.

    The share of the Azov and Black Sea basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in July 2021 amounted to 30.6%.

    More than half of the total was oil and products, with crude oil accounting for 30.8% of the overall throughput, and oil products for 21%. Coal and coke amount to 15.6%. Grain constituted 14.3% of the total.

    It should be noted that the highest growth was in the sugar segment (up 5.5-fold), reefers cargo (up 3.8-fold), Ro-Ro (+94.7%).

    The commodities that decreased the most were other bulk (suction) (-52.9%), timber and logs (-40.6%) and other general cargo (-23.4%).

    Novorossiysk accounted for 51.9% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Azov and Black basin sea ports in July. Taman handled 16.4%, and Tuapse 9.2% of the total.
