During January-May 2021, cargo volume carried by all transport modes in the RF transport system was down 0.7% year-on-year to 2.92 bn tons.
According to the RF Statistics Agency, the largest volume was carried by road, down 3.2% year-on-year to 1.9 bn tons.
Rail freight grew by 3.5% year-on-year up to 526.2 mn tons.
Pipeline traffic was up 5.6% year-on-year to 485.3 mn tons.
Sea freight decreased by 2.7% year-on-year down to 8.9 mn tons.
Inland shipping volume declined by 7.3% year-on-year down to 21.5 mn tons.
Air transport carried 0.6 mn tons, up 36.6% year-on-year.
In May, cargo transportation volume by all of the transport modes increased month-on-month, and inland shipping volume surged 3-fold.
