Russian Rail Export via Sea Ports Grows 11.7% YoY in January

  • According to Russian Railways, the loading of cargo designated for export via Russian sea ports made 29.98 mn tons in January 2021 increasing 11.7% year-on-year.

    49.5% of the entire volume is coal, oil and products accounted for 23.5% of the total export rail freight, ferrous metals for 7.2%, fertilizers for 5.8%, and grain for 3.8% of the total.

    Coal loading increased by 24.4% year-on-year up to 14.7 mn tons during the period under report.

    Coal loading designated for South Russian ports grew 1.5-fold year-on-year up to 1.8 mn tons, that to North-Western ports by 21.9% up to 4.7 mn tons, and that to the Russian Far East by 21.1% exceeding 8.3 mn tons.

    All in all, 12.3 mn tons of export cargo, 15.8% above the level of 2019, was designated for the North-West sea ports. The Southern region ports accounted for 7.6 mn tons, up 7.8% year-on-year.

    Cargo volume loaded for export via the ports of the Russian Far East made 9.9 mn tons, up 19.1% year-on-year.
