RF President Vladimir Putin has instructed the Government with amending the legislation in order to provide regulations for autonomous shipping and an experiment to deploy autonomous vessels during 2021-2025. The amendments are to be introduced by February 2021.
The President also commissioned developing suggestions on stimulating developing equipment for autonomous shipping and installing it on board Russian-flagged vessels, and developing infrastructure for a mobile satellite communication system to be used by autonomous shipping operators. The suggestions are to be submitted by March 2021.
The ministries of transport, industry and trade, and foreign affairs are commissioned with promoting autonomous shipping technologies in the IMO and other international organizations and implementing legal standards to regulate ин Ьautonomous shipping projects. The parties responsible are to report on the progress annually, the first report is expected by May 2021.
