Russian Railways Load 3% Less Cargo during 11 Months 2020

  • During January-November 2020, Russian Railways loaded 1,136.6 mn tons of cargo, down 3% year-on-year.

    Coal loading declined by 6% down to 320.8 mn tons. Oil and products, Russian Railways’ second most important cargo in terms of volume, decreased by 9.8% down to 190.2 mn tons. Ferrous and manganese ore was slightly up by 0.5% to 109.7 mn tons.

    Ferrous metals were down 10.7% to 60.4 mn tons, timber and logs down 3.1% to 37.2 mn tons, soda and chemicals down 6.3% to 22.3 mn tons, cement down 5% to 23.6 mn tons, ferrous metal scrap down 5% to 13 mn tons, and industrial and forming materials down 3.7% to 31.3 mn tons.

    Construction cargo was up 6.9% to 122.9 mn tons, chemical and mineral fertilizers up 3.2% to 57.3 mn tons, non-ferrous ore and raw sulfur up 2.9% to 18.4 mn tons, grain up 27.3% to 24.7 mn tons, and coke loading up 3.9% to 10.2 mn tons.

    Rail cargo throughput during January-November made 2,317.7 bn tons per km, down 2.7% year-on-year.

    In November, Russian Railways loaded 104 mn tons of cargo, down 1.2% year-on-year. Cargo throughput amounted to 217.4 bn tons per km, up 1.8% year-on-year.
