Maersk Launches Block Train from China to Georgia

  • Maersk is expanding its intercontinental rail product portfolio with the recent introduction of a block train solution connecting China and Georgia, the first such product implemented specifically for Georgian import.

The first train left Xi’an in Shaanxi province on September 10, and arrived in Tbilisi on October 4 with 41container on board.

‘We arranged this special service specifically for Georgian customers, and we plan to develop block train solutions for the whole Caucasus Region, Irakli Danelia, Georgia Commercial Representative at A.P. Moller – Maersk, commented.

At present, there is no regular schedule, the frequency of the service will depend on customer needs, and the next train will run once there is sufficient cargo for.

For the time being, the train is one-way with no back load.

The service offering has a truck delivery option, but this first time the customer did not need it.
