What Export Up, Import Down

  • According to the RF Federal Customs Service statistics, during January-July Russia exported over 15 mn tons of wheat and meslin, up 10.5% year-on-year. In terms of value, grain export increased by 9.9% up to some $3.2 bn.

    Wheat import into Russia during January-July 2020 dropped by 41.5% down to 67.2 thousand tons. Corn import, on the contrary, grew by 55.9% up to 42.4 thousand tons. Barley import made 16.5 thousand tons surging 3.9-fold year-on-year.

    In terms of value, wheat import was down 19.9% to $21.7 mn. Corn import was up 18.9% to $111.2 mn, barley import surged by 87.5% up to $3 mn.

    In July 2020, wheat and meslin export made more than 2.3 thousand tons, down 21.6% year-on-year and up 10.9-fold month-on-month. In terms of value, it declined by 17.3% year-on-year and surged 10.1-fold month-on-month to make $459.7 mn.

    Wheat import in July made 6.9 thousand tons, down 56.6% year-on-year and down 29.6% month-on-month. Value-wise, wheat import decreased by 34.2% year-on-year and by 26.5% month-on-month down to $2.5 bn

    Corn import grew by 55.6% year-on-year, but declined by 44% month-on-month making 1.4 thousand tons. In terms of value, it was down 71.4% year-on-year and by 50% month-on-month to make $200 thousand.

    Barley import made 5.4 thousand tons surging 9-fold month-on-month, worth $600 thousand, up 6-fold month-on-month. In July 2019, Russia did not import barley.
