Russian Railway’s Cardo Down in H1 2020

  • During January-July 2020, Russian Railways loaded 708.8 mn tons of cargo, down 4.4% year-on-year.

    Coal loading declined by 9.2% down to 196 mn tons. Oil and products, Russian Railways’ second most important cargo in terms of volume, decreased by 8.6% down to 123.2 mn tons. Ferrous and manganese ore was up slightly by 0.5% to 69.7 mn tons.

    Ferrous metals were down 11.6% to 39.1 mn tons, timber and logs down 4.4% to 24.7 mn tons, soda and chemicals down 7.1% to 14.2 mn tons, cement down 9.3% to 14 mn tons, ferrous metal scrap down 13.6% to 7.3 mn tons, and industrial and forming materials down 7.1% to 18.7 mn tons.

    Construction cargo was up 5.2% to 75.9 mn tons, chemical and mineral fertilizers up 3.1% to 36.6 mn tons, non-ferrous ore and raw sulfur up 1.5% to 11.6 mn tons, grain up 17% to 12.4 mn tons, and coke up 0.7% to 6.4 mn tons

    Rail cargo throughput during January-July made 1,447.7 bn tons per km, down 4.7% year-on-year.

    In July, Russian Railways loaded 103.8 mn tons of cargo, down 3.9 year-on-year. Cargo throughput amounted to 209.3 bn tons per km, down 1.8% year-on-year.
