Cargo Traffic via the Arctic Basin Ports in June

Arctic Basin Ports’ Throughput in June 2020 Down 30%

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput via the Russian Arctic basin ports in June 2020 declined by 29.6%. Cabotage decreased by 13.7%, export was down 37.3%, and import down 96.6%.

    The share of the Arctic basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in June 2020 amounted to 10%.

    54.7% of the total cargo traffic was crude oil, LNG accounted for 22.8% and coal and coke for 7.2%.

    The highest growth was in the other bulk (grab) segment (up 2.8-fold), non-ferrous metals (up 2.2-fold) and piece cargo (+68.2%).

    The commodities that decreased the most were chemical and mineral fertilizers (-84.5%), coal and coke (-77%) and liquefied gas (-19.7%).

    Murmansk accounted for 52% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Arctic basin sea ports in June. Sabetta handled 34.7%, and Varandey 4.7% of the total.
