Russia’s Ice Cream Import Up 60%

    According to SeaNews Russian Foreign Trade Customs Statistics online service, in Q1 2020 Russia imported 4.5 thousand tons of ice cream and juice ice pops, up 60.7% year-on-year. In monetary terms, ice cream and ice pops increased by 70.6% amounting to $14.5 mn.

    In the first quarter of 2020, ice cream and juice ice pops were supplied to Russia from 18 countries.

    The major exporting country was Belarus with 1.7 thousand tons (+74%) of ice cream and juice ice pops worth $4.5 mn (+76.4%) supplied to Russia. The goods were mainly shipped to St. Petersburg, Smolensk and Moscow Oblasts.

    Ice cream and juice ice pops import from France increased by 26.3% up to 709 tons in terms of tonnage and by 20% up to $2.6 mn in monetary terms. Almost all the products were shipped to Moscow Oblast.

    Turkey exported to Russia 592 tons of ice cream and juice ice pops worth $1.9 mn, all of these were designated for Moscow.

    Import from Kazakhstan amounted to 508 tons (+98.7%) worth $2 mn (up 5.9-fold). Almost all the ice cream and juice ice pops was shipped to Novosibirsk Oblast.

    The major importing region was St. Petersburg. During the first quarter of 2020, 1.2 thousand tons of ice cream and juice ice pops were shipped to the region, 72% more than during the same period of 2019. In monetary terms, import increased by 77.8% up to $3.2 mn. Almost all the products were from Belarus.

    Imports to Moscow Oblast increased by 25% up to 1 thousand tons worth $3.7 mn, up 12.9% year-on-year. For the most parts, shipments were from France, Spain and Belarus.

    Moscow imported 985.1 tons (up 2.9-fold) of ice cream and juice ice pops worth $3.7 mn (up 2.3-fold). A significant share of imports was products from Turkey and Switzerland.
