Azov and Black Sea Basin Throughput in June: Grain Down

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput via the Azov and Black Sea basin ports in June 2020 decreased by 15.1% year-on-year. Transit declined by 30.1%, cabotage by 23.8%, import was down 20.4%, and export down 7.6%.

    The share of the Azov and Black Sea basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in June 2020 amounted to 28.9%.

    More than half of the total was oil and products, with crude oil accounting for 33% of the overall throughput, and oil products for 24.1%. Coal and coke had the third largest share in the aggregate throughput amounting to 10.8%.

    The highest growth was in the ore segment (up 2.5-fold), reefer cargo (up 2-fold) and chemicals (+75.7%).

    The commodities that decreased the most were ro-ro (-89.2%), sugar (-78%) and grain (-60.6%).

    Novorossiysk accounted for 57.6% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Azov and Black basin sea ports in June. Tuapse handled 12.8%, and port Kavkaz 10.8% of the total.
