Container Traffic via Caspian Basin Ports in April 2020: Empty Container Throughput Up

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput via the Caspian basin ports in May 2020 grew by 45.6% year-on-year. Export surged 2.5-fold. Cabotage decreased by 30.3%, and import by 39.8%.

    The share of the Caspian basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in May 2020 amounted to 0.1%.

    Laden container throughput in the Caspian was down 22.9%. Reefer containers were non-existent in May. Exports made 58.2% of all the laden containers, imports accounted for 33.6%, and cabotage for 8.2% of the total.

    Empty container traffic was up 15.5-fold.

    100% of all the Russian Caspian container traffic was handled in Astrakhan.
