Seafood Export from Russia Down in Q1 2020

    According to SeaNews Russian Foreign Trade Customs Statistics online service, in Q1 2020 Russia exported 16.6 thousand tons (-19.4%) of seafood worth $193.1 bn (-16.6%).

    Crabs account for the majority of exports. In January-March 2020, crab export decreased by 37.4% down to 6.7 thousand tons. In terms of value, export decreased by 24.3% down to $147.9 mn. The major countries of destination were Republic of Korea and China.

    Shrimps export increased by 10.7% up to 3.1 thousand tons in tonnage and by 29.5% up to $22.4 mn in terms of value. Republic of Korea, Japan and China accounted for a major share of shipments.

    Squids exports from Russia amounted to 3 thousand tons (up 2-fold) worth $9.4 mn (up 3.1-fold). Most of the products were exported to China.

    Sea urchins exports made 2.5 thousand tons, up 4.2% year-on-year. In terms of value, exports increased by 5.6% up to $7.6 mn. Almost all the volume was shipped to Japan.

    In January-March 2020, Russia exported seafood products to 22 countries. The major importers Republic of Korea, China and Japan.

    Exports to Republic of Korea decreased by 21.2% down to 6.7 thousand tons in terms of tonnage and by 7.8% down to $109.8 mn in monetary terms. Crabs accounted for most of the supplies.

    4.9 thousand tons (-32.9%) of seafood products worth $52.2 mn (-18.3%) was exported to China. Crabs and squids accounted for the major share of the entire volume.

    Seafood exports to Japan increased up to 3.6 thousand tons (+38.5%) worth $17.1 mn (+87.9%). Crabs, sea urchins and shrimp prevailed in the exports.
