Container Traffic via Caspian Basin Ports Down

  • According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput via the Caspian basin ports in February 2020 dropped by 47.6% year-on-year. Import was down 61.9%, export down 35.3%, and cabotage declined by 7.1%.

    The share of the Caspian basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in February 2020 amounted to 0.1%.

    Laden container throughput in the Caspian decreased by 42.6% year-on-year. Reefer containers were non-existent in February. Imports made 39.4% of all the laden containers, cabotage accounted for 10.1%, and exports for 50.5% of the total.

    Empty container traffic dropped by 90.9%.

    100% of all the Russian Caspian container traffic was handled in Astrakhan.
