During Q1 2020, Russian Railways loaded 306.7 mn tons of cargo, down 3.8% year-on-year.
Coal loading declined by 10.2% down to 87.2 mn tons. Oil and products, Russian Railways’ second most important cargo in terms of volume, decreased by 3.2% down to 58.7 mn tons.
Ferrous metals were down 7% to 18.1 mn tons, timber and logs down 5.3% to 10.4 mn tons, soda and chemicals down 2.3% to 6.5 mn tons. Grain loading declined by 6% down to 5.7 mn tons.
Coke loading decreased by 4.6% down to 2.7 mn tons, industrial and forming materials by 12.6% down to 6.9 mn tons.
Construction cargo was up 5.7% to 28.8 mn tons, ferrous and manganese ore up 1.5% to 29.7 mn tons, non-ferrous ore and raw sulfur up 1.8% to 4.8 mn tons, ferrous metals scrap up 0.7% to 2.8 mn tons. Cement loading was level with Q1 2019 making 4.6 mn tons.
In March, Russian Railways loaded 114 mn tons, down 4.3% year-on-year.
Cargo throughput in January-March 2020 made 621.5 bn ton/km, down 4.7% year-on-year.
In March, cargo throughput decreased by 7.3% year-on-year down to 214.7 bn ton/km.
