Russian Railways’ Loading Slightly Down

  • During January-February Russian Railways loaded 199.6 mn tons of cargo, down 0.8% year-on-year. Almost all commodities were down.

    Coal loading declined by 8.4% down to 57.8 mn tons. Oil and products, Russian Railways’ second most important cargo in terms of volume, decreased by 2.1% down to 38.7 mn tons.

    Ferrous metals were down 4.9% to 12.1 mn tons, timber and logs down 7.4% to 6.5 mn tons, soda and chemicals down 0.7% to 4.3 mn tons. Grain loading dropped by 17.1% down to 3.4 mn tons.

    Coke loading declined by 6.4% down to 1.7 mn tons, industrial and forming materials by 14.3% down to 4.3 mn tons.

    Construction cargo was up 5.7% to 17.8 mn tons, ferrous and manganese ore up 2.8% to 19.7 mn tons,

     non-ferrous ore and raw sulfur down 2.5% to 17.9 mn tons, , and ferrous metals scrap down 7.5% to 13.7 mn tons, non-ferrous ore and raw sulphur up 1.8% to to 3 mn tons, cement up 3.6% to 2.7 mn tons.

    In February, Russian Railways loaded 99.4 mn tons, up 0.6% year-on-year.

    Cargo throughput in January-February 2019 made 406 bn ton/km, up 0.4% year-on-year.

    In February, cargo throughput decreased by 2.4% year-on-year down to 197.4 bn ton/km.
