Samsung Heavy Industries has won a contract to build two Aframax tankers, valued at KRW 187.5 bn (USD 158 mn), which will be delivered by March 2022. The company does not disclose the customer.
SHI became the first shipbuidler to clinch a deal to build a bidirectional icebreaking tanker in 2005 and another deal to build a drillship designed for drilling in the Arctic region in 2008, which was successfully delivered, emerging as a leading producer of ships specialised for the Arctic region, Samsung Heavy reminds in the statement.
During the 5th Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Samsung Heavy Industries signed an agreement on designing LNG tankers for Arctic LNG 2 Project with Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex.
Under the agreement, SHI will act as a technology partner of the project responsible for developing technic specifications of the vessels. It will hand over the rights for the project documentation to Zvezda and assist Lazurit Design Bureau in developing design documentation.
