Russian Transport Sector in January-July

  • During January-July 2019, cargo volume carried by all transport modes in the RF transport system remained much on the same level as last year making 4.47 bn tons (+0.1% year-on-year).

    According to the RF Statistics Agency, road transport accounts for the largest share in the entire volume with 2.99 bn tons, up 0.8% year-on-year.

    Rail cargo volume declined by 1.4% down to 742.3 mn tons.

    Pipeline traffic was down 1.1% year-on-year to 673.5 mn tons.

    Maritime transport volume decreased by 7.8% year-on-year down to 10.7 mn tons.

    Inland shipping volume dropped by 6.6% year-on-year down to 49.7 mn tons.

    Air transport carried 0.63 mn tons, up 5% year-on-year.

    In July, the transport system segments that demonstrated positive growth were road, air and pipeline sectors, cargo transportation by all the other transport modes declined.
