Russian Transport Sector Cargo Transportation Down

  • During January-June 2019, cargo volume carried by all transport modes in the RF transport system decreased by 1.3% year-on-year to make 3.69 bn tons.

    According to the RF Statistics Agency, road transport accounts for the largest share in the entire volume with 2.43 bn tons, down 1% year-on-year.

    Rail cargo volume declined by 1.6% down to 634.2 mn tons.

    Pipeline traffic was down 1.5% year-on-year to 581.3 mn tons.

    Maritime transport volume decreased by 6.1% year-on-year down to 9.2 mn tons.

    Inland shipping volume dropped by 9.2% year-on-year down to 33.4 mn tons.

    The only segment that demonstrated positive growth was air transport, which carried 0.53 mn tons, up 3.9% year-on-year.

    In June, the only transport system segments that demonstrated positive growth were air and pipeline sectors, cargo transportation by all the other transport modes declined.
