Kaliningrad Region is ready to present two port development projects, said Denis Saliy, Head of the Kaliningrad regional government representative office under the RF Government, speaking at TransRussia transport and logistics forum in Moscow.
One of the two projects are the dry port in Chernyakhovsk, where the Russian standard rail gauge meets the European gauge. “This is the center of the Kaliningrad region. We plan to develop overland container logistics there”, said D.Saliy.
“We have the necessary territory and the infrastructure. We are looking for an investor that will be interested, possibly, a consortium of investors that will develop this segment. Cargo flow is growing, it has a potential. We are prepared to share all information with investors to make a decision”, he added.
The second project is a deepwater port. “At present, unlike our Baltic neighbours, Kaliningrad Region has now deepwater port, and our aim is to find a major investor. We are negotiating with several global companies, which are leaders among port infrastructure operators”, said D.Saliy, specifying that the suggested location fort the would-be port is on the west coast of the region. The overall investment sum is about 200 bn rubles, he added.
