During January 2019, the sea ports of Ukraine saw their container traffic significantly increase. The monthly throughput made 77.5 thousand TEU, up 34.4% year-on-year.
By way of comparison, Russia’s largest Black Sea port of Novorossiysk in January 2019 handled 22.6% fewer containers than all the Ukrainian sea ports.
According to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Administration, export container traffic via the Ukrainian sea ports made 37.3 thousand TEU, up 36.6% year-on-year. Import declined by 5.5% down to 26.5 thousand TEU. Import was down almost in all of the Ukraine’s ports.
Transit surged by 92.7% up to 4.4 thousand TEU. Cabotage made 9.3 thousand TEU, last year in January there was no transit traffic in the Ukraine.
Odessa handled 48.2 thousand TEU during 2018, up 15.9% year-on-year.
Container traffic via Yuzhny surged 3.5-fold up to over 18.8 thousand TEU.
Chernomorsk (formerly known as Ilyichevsk) handled slightly less than 10.5 thousand TEU, down 0.4% year-on-year. In 2018, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Administration included the container throughput of Ilyichevsk Sea Fishing Port in the statistics of Chernomorsk. According to SeaNews’ data, Ilyichevsk Sea Fishing Port handled in January 10.5 thousand TEU.
Olvia Specialized Sea Port (formerly, Oktyabrsk) handled just 11 TEU, down 95.5% year-on-year.
