Rosatomflot Escorted Maersk Container Vessel by Northern Sea Route

  • The nuclear icebreaker “50 Let Pobedy” operated by Rosatomflot has completed the escort of “Venta Maersk” along the Northern Sea Route.

According to Rosatomflot, the icebreaker started escorting the container vessel from the ice edge in the East Siberian Sea and led it through the ice to the ice edge in the Laptev Sea.

From there on, “Venta Maersk” continued the voyage on her own.

The ice convoy used the shortest route via the Sannikov Strait, the average speed was 11 knots.

According to Rosatomflot, part of the cargo on board is designated for Bremerhaven, and part for St. Petersburg, where the vessel is to arrive around September 27.
