Container Traffic via Baltic Basin Ports in August 2021 Down 1.1%

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput via the Baltic basin ports in August 2021 decreased by 1.1% year-on-year.

    Export was down 2.6%, and import declined by 11.1%. Transit made 11.6 thousand TEU, with Kaliningrad handling the entire volume.

    The share of the Baltic basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in August 2021 amounted to 44.1%.

    Laden container throughput grew by 1.2% year-on-year. Reefer containers accounted for 9.8% of the total laden container traffic, and dry containers for 90.2%. Transit made 6.2% of all the laden containers, exports 42.7%, and imports 51.1%.

    Empty container traffic decreased by 14.2%.

    The Big Port of St. Petersburg accounted for 79.2% of the aggregate container throughput via the Russian Baltic basin sea ports in August. Kaliningrad handled 19.3%, and Ust-Luga 1.5% of the total.
