Container Traffic via Caspian Basin Ports Grows 2.3-Fold in February 2021

    The article is based on SeaNews PORTSTAT online service (available for SeaNews subsribers).

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput via Russia’s Caspian basin ports in February 2021 surged 2.3-fold year-on-year. Cabotage grew by 61.5%, export by 63.6%, and import was up 3.3-fold.

    The share of the Caspian basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in February 2021 amounted to 0.06%.

    Laden container throughput in the Caspian was up 18.3%. Reefer containers were non-existent in February. Imports made 69% of all the laden containers, exports accounted for 19.4%, and cabotage for 11.6% of the total.

    Empty container traffic surged 63-fold.

    The port of Astrakhan accounted for 64.7% of the aggregate container throughput via the Russian Caspian basin ports in February. Olya handled 35.3% of the total.
