Arktika Nuclear Icebreaker Sets Sail on First Voyage

  • November 14 the universal nuclear icebreaker “Arktika” set sail on her first commercial voyage from Murmansk to the Kara Sea. According to Rosatomflot, the icebreaker will be deployed on the Northern Sea Route till mid-December.

    At present, ice formation is in progress in the Arctic. After the first voyage that will last for three weeks the icebreaker will return to Murmansk to take supplies, and will be back to the Northern Sea Route by the end of December.

    The icebreaker will be operating in the Arctic during the winter and spring navigation period.
