Ukrainian Ports’ Throughput Down

    According to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority, during H1 2018 the country’s sea ports handled 63.8 mn tons of cargo, 3.1% below the last year’s result.

    The throughput decline was due to lower volumes of grains, which was down 10.3% year-on-year, and ore, which dropped 26.5%.

    Export traffic decreased 8.9% down to 46.1 mn tons. Among export designated commodities that grew the most were ferrous metals (+16.5%0, including metal-roll (+3%) and cast iron (+66.5%).

    Import cargo grew 18.7% up to almost 11 mn tons. Ore was up 19.7 mn tons to 3.7 mn tons, and coal up 10.7% to 21.8 mn tons.

    Transit traffic increased 7.9% up to 5.8 mn tons.

    Container throughput, according to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority, grew 11% up to 391 thousand TEU.

    During the 6 months of 2018 the Ukrainian sea port handled 5,848 vessels, up 3.1% year-on-year.
