Container Traffic via Ukrainian Ports Up

  • During January-March 2018, the sea ports of Ukraine handled 195.7 thousand TEU, up 4.1% year-on-year.

    By way of comparison, Russia’s largest Black Sea port of Novorossiysk handled some 224.1 thousand TEU during the same period.

    According to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority, export container traffic via the country’s ports made 91.4 thousand TEU, up 55.3% year-on-year. Import grew 33.9% up to 97.8 thousand TEU.

    Transit dropped 16.8% down to 6.5 thousand TEU. Cabotage was non-existent.

    Odessa handled 146.7 thousand TEU during the first quarter of 2018, up 17.4% year-on-year.

    Yuzhny also grew – up 15.7% to 17.1 thousand TEU.

    Chernomorsk (formerly known as Ilyichevsk) handled 31.7 thousand TEU compared to just 2 TEU in January-March 2017.

    Ilyichevsk Sea Fishing Port, which previously was not included into the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority’s statistics, handled, according to SeaNews’ data, 31.7 thousand TEU, up 7.8% year-on-year.

    Olvia Specialized Sea Port (formerly, Oktyabrsk) handled 266 TEU increasing its last year’s January-March result 17.7-fold.
