During 2017, cargo transportation by all modes of transport in Russia amounted to 7.98 bn tons, increasing 5.2% year-on-year.
According to the RF Statistics Agency, the major share is carried by road, 5.4 bn tons, up 6% year-on-year.
Rail cargo grew 3.2% to some 1.3 bn tons. Maritime transport carried 24.5 mn tons, 2.9% more than during 2016.
Pipeline transportation amounted to 1.14 bn tons exceeding the 2016 result 4.6%.
Air freight grew 10% and made 1.1 mn tons.
Inland shipping was the only sector to decrease cargo volume, down 3% year-on-year to 110.4 mn tons.
