Grain Export and Import

  • During 2017, Russia exported over 33 mn tons of wheat and meslin, exceeding the 2016 result by 30.4%. In terms of value, grain and meslin export increased 37.4% to $5.79 bn, according to the RF Federal Customs Service.

    Most of the country’s export was designated for non-CIS countries, 31.5 mn tons, up 31.67% year-on-year. In terms of value, wheat and meslin export to non-CIS countries amounted to $5.5 bn, growing 39.2% year-on-year.

    Wheat and meslin export to the CIS countries made 1.5 tons, which is 10.2% more than during 2016. The value of wheat and meslin exported to the CIS countries grew 7.2% making $253.3 mn.

    Russia’s import of wheat dropped drastically by 53.6% down to 269 thousand tons and by 55.4% down to $39.7 mn in terms of value.

    Barley import increased 6.4% to 168.6 thousand tons physically and 61.1% to $32.7 mn in terms of value.

    Corn import also grew, up 27.9% to 52.6 thousand tons physically and up 31.8% to $182.3 mn in terms of value.
