TransContainer, part of Delo Group, has resumed carrying export designated coal from Irkutsk region to China in 20’ open top containers.
Coal is loaded at the railway stations of Irkusk-Sortirovochnaya and Batareinaya and transported via the border crossing of Zabaikalsk-Manzhouli to Heilongjiang Province in China.
The transit time is three days. The first shipment consisted of 110 TEU. In future, the monthly traffic is expected to make up to 10 block trains (1,240 TEU).
As part o the service, TransContainer provides fitting platforms, carries the cargo to the border crossing, and reloads the containers onto Chinese gauge rolling stock.
Using containers eliminates the need to unload coal from Russian gauge railcars into China gauge railcars, which is especially important in winter when coal gets frozen and takes time to handle.
