Freight Traffic in Russian Transport Sector Down 6.6% MoM in October 2023

  • During January-October 2023, cargo volume carried by all transport modes in the RF transport system was up 0.7% year-on-year to 7.33 bn tons.

    According to the RF Statistics Agency, the largest volume was carried by road, up 1.3% year-on-year to 5.31 bn tons.

    Rail freight increased by 0.3% year-on-year up to 1.03 bn tons.

    Pipeline traffic was down 1.7% year-on-year to 865.7 mn tons.

    Sea freight grew by more than 23% year-on-year up to 28 mn tons.

    Inland shipping volume decreased by 10.6% year-on-year down to 94.7 mn tons.

    Air transport carried 380 thousand tons, down 26% year-on-year.

    In October 2023, the total cargo turnover of Russian transport declined by 6.6% month-on-month to 750.8 mn tons.
