Global Ports, now part of Delo Group, has signed an agreement with FosAgro, Russia’s major phosphate-based fertilizers manufacturer, on handling fertilizers at the Group’s terminals in St. Petersburg, Global Ports said in a statement.
The five-year contract signed on November 16 in Moscow provides for handling no fewer than 3 mn tons annually during 2024-2028.
Fertilizers will be delivered from FosAgro’s plants to Petrolesport and First Container Terminal in the Big Port of St. Petersburg and loaded on board vessels in special-purpose containers.
Earlier this year, in spring, Global Ports and FosAgro signed a Memorandum on cooperation declaring their plans to develop fertilizers export via the Baltic basin.
Since 2022, Global Ports has been adapting the infrastructure and equipment of its St. Petersburg terminals to handle non-containerized cargo in order to compensate for the decline of container traffic in the Baltic.
This year, the company has continued to modernize its terminals to use containers for handling bulk commodities acquiring additional equipment and using its own special purpose containers.
‘The new cargo traffic will help us to increase the utilization of the facilities in the Big Port of St. Petersburg, which is a most important transport hub for Russia’s foreign trade,’ Albert Likholyot, CEO of Global Ports, commented.
