The Government of Kazakhstan is prepared to transfer its Caspian ports of Aktau and Kuryk under the trust management of a private company, Interfax reports quoting the country’s Transport Ministry Marat Karabaev.
‘We have two key ports. We are prepared to transfer them under the trust management of any private company if we have a suitable private company,’ he said at a round table on global investment.
‘If such a company guarantees full utilization of the port facilities, we are ready to transfer them under the management of the private sector,’ he added.
The Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan also considered the sale of shares if the ship-or-pay scheme is applied, Interfax quotes the Minister.
The only shareholder of Aktau is Samruk-Kazyna investment holding that incorporates Kazakhstan’s key companies in differen segments. Since November 2023, the shares of Aktau are under the trust management of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, Kazakhstan Railways, a subsidiary of Samruk-Kazyna.
The port of Kuryk is also under the management of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy.
