Russian Transport Sector Freight Traffic Up 2.8 MoM in September 2023

  • During January-September 2023, cargo volume carried by all transport modes in the RF transport system was up 1.9% year-on-year to 6.63 bn tons.

    According to the RF Statistics Agency, the largest volume was carried by road, up 3% year-on-year to 4.82 bn tons.

    Rail freight increased by 0.7% year-on-year up to 929.1 mn tons.

    Pipeline traffic was down 2.5% year-on-year to 775.4 mn tons.

    Sea freight grew by 25.4 year-on-year up to 25.5 mn tons.

    Inland shipping volume decreased by 10.7% year-on-year down to 81.6 mn tons.

    Air transport carried 330 thousand tons, down 28% year-on-year.

    In September 2023, the total cargo turnover of Russian transport grew by 2.8% month-on-month to 862.2 mn tons.
