Sverdlovskaya Railawy, part of Russian Railways, has inaugurated a container yard at the rail station of Serov. The new facility was established to meet the demand of the local customers in the forest industry who ship their products by block trains to various destinations in Russia and abroad. Prior to this, they had to use the terminals either in Yekaterinburg or Sovetsky, both located some 400 kilometers from Serov.
Now the customers will have an opportunity to dispatch their containerized goods from Northern Sverdlovsk region, thus reducing transport and logistics costs and optimizing supply chains.
The container yard at Serov offers a temporary storage space for containers and handling equipment. The modernized infrastructure is expected to serve wood processing companies from Severouralsk, Karpinsk, Lobva, Filkino, Krasnoyarka, Vosochny and other towns and settlements.
The first block train with70 containers laden with sawn goods designated for China left Serov on May 28. In future, it is planned to have up to six block trains running from Serov monthly.
