Dredging Project for Naryan-Mar Port

  • The Main Department of State Expertise has approved of the design estimates for the first stage of the dredging project to be executed in the Naryan-Mar sea port area, the Department said in a statement.

The project provides for dredging to provide for vessels to pass to the berths to be built in the port. It is necessary to make it possible to accommodate ships delivering cargo for the construction of a gas chemical plant that will use condensed gas from the Kumzha field.

The plant will have a dedicated marine terminal to handle export designated products for transportation by the Northern Sea Route. Besides, dredging the Pechora River basin is important for the transport accessibility of the Nenets Autonomous Region.

At present, the river depth in the area is between 0.4 m and 4.7 m, after the dredging project is completed the depth will be 4.7 m on the entire fairway to the berths. This will improve navigation safety and allow vessels delivering construction and other cargoes to pass, which now face problems due to the river getting shallow, the Department said.

Dredging is to be carried out by Ruskhim under an agreement with Rosmorport. At the first stage of the project the overall territory of the port basin and the entrance fairway will make 230.1 thousand sq m, the dredging volume will make 351.8 thousand cub m, and the maximal draft will be 3.6 m.

The developer of the facility is Ruskhim Trans.
