On June 9, 2022, Russian Railways and Turkmen Railways concluded a Memorandum of Understanding in Moscow. The document was signed by Oleg Belozerov, CEO and Chair of Russian Railways, and Mametkhan Chakyev, CEO of the Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of ministers of Turkmenistan.
The Memorandum confirms the interest of the parties in exchanging experience and expanding export and import freight transportation by rail between Russia and Turkmenistan as well as in increasing transit freight traffic.
The document defines logistic corridors development as a priority in the parties’ cooperation, first and foremost, this applies to the eastern branch of the North-South international transport corridor.
The Memorandum also envisages cooperation in modernizing railway and auxiliary infrastructure to provide transportation by logistic corridors.
