FESCO Extends Antarctic Contract with India

  • FESCO Transportation Group has signed a new five-year contract with India’s NCPOR for providing supply services to the country’s Antarctic research stations.

    Under the contract, FESCO’s icebreaking cargo vessel “Vasily Golovnin” will deliver general cargo, food products, fuel, and polar NCPOR researchers to the Indian research stations Bharati and Maitri in the Antarctic during five Antarctic seasons till 2026.

    The first voyage is scheduled to start in December 2021 from Cape Town in South Africa.

    FESCO has an experience providing supply services for the Indian Antarctic stations. In 2019-2021, “Vasily Golovnin” made three expeditions to Maitri and Bharati delivering more than 3 thousand tons of cargo and 150 people, and evacuating more than 400 tons of waste and decommissioned equipment.

    FESCO has also served under contracts for supplying Antarctic research programmes of the USA, Australia, Great Britain, Chile and Argentina.
