Russian Transport System Freight Up 1.2% in January-August 2021

  • During January-August 2021, cargo volume carried by all transport modes in the RF transport system was up 1.2% year-on-year to 5.14 bn tons.

    According to the RF Statistics Agency, the largest volume was carried by road, down 0.9% year-on-year to 3.45 bn tons.

    Rail cargo grew by 4% year-on-year up to 850.5 mn tons.

    Pipeline traffic was up 8.5% year-on-year to 752.3 mn tons.

    Sea freight decreased by 0.6% year-on-year down to 14.8 mn tons.

    Inland shipping volume declined by 0.9% year-on-year down to 69.6 mn tons.

    Air transport carried 0.92 mn tons, up 32.7% year-on-year.

    In August cargo transportation volume increased month-on-month by almost all of the transport modes, the only exception being carried by road and inland shipping.
