Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company, part of Global Ports Group company) has completed the expansion of the cargo railway front at the land side of Berths 7-8.
The terminal has built a new track and purchased two new reach stackers with increased load carrying capacity. This modification has doubled the throughput capacity of the railway front in this area and increased the average speed of block train handling by 40%.
The new railway track 5, with a length of 434 metres, will be used with the existing track 4 of the same length. Two new heavy Kakmar reach stackers, each with a lifting capacity of 45 tons, have been installed to complement the standard reach stackers already operating on the tracks. The new Kalmars are equipped with outriggers and a boom with a reach of up to 7.5 m. This means the equipment will be able to handle platforms with containers on both railway tracks. As a result, VSC can now handle a train of 57 conventional wagons in just one submission, rather than the previous two, and has increased the average handling speed of one train by 40% to 12 hours.
Previously, the loading and unloading of container block trains at the land side of berths 7-8 was carried out on one railway track 4. A train of 57 conventional wagons was handled in two submissions. The train was split at the station, which led to an additional load on the station tracks.
Three other cargo railway fronts operating at VSC can handle up to 2.5 trains of up to 71 conventional wagons per day on each front.
