Far East Basin Ports’ Throughput in July 2021: Liquefied Gas Down

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput via the Russian Far East basin ports in July 2021 decreased by 4.3% year-by-year. Export declined by 4.6%, and cabotage by 21.1%/ Transit was up 29.2%, and import up 39.9%.

    The share of the Far East basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in July 2021 amounted to 27.2%.

    More than 75% in the Russian Far Eastern ports’ commodity structure is coal, oil and products. In July 2021, coal and coke accounted for 51.6% of the total volume, crude oil for 21.6% and oil products for 6.5%. Containerized cargo constituted 9.6% of the total.

    It should be noted that the highest growth rate was in the reefer cargo segment (up 3.5-fold), grain (up 2.3-fold) and non-ferrous metals (+79.1%).

    The commodities that decreased the most were ferrous metals (-67.9%), liquefied gas (-55.1%) and other general cargo (-53.8%).

    Vostochny accounted for 33.1% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Far East basin sea ports in July. Vanino handled 17%, and Vladivostok 12.8% of the total.
