Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company in the port of Vostochny, part of Global Ports group, is stopping handling coal in September. The company intends to concentrate on its core container business.
‘Container throughput via VSC grew 18% in H1 2021, and there is potential for further growth. The decision to stop handling coal will allow the terminal to reduce its environmental trace and benefit from the growing demand for container handling,’ Albert Likholyot, CEO of Global Ports, commented.
VSC has already notified its customers about stopping coal handling. All the coal shipments accumulated at the terminal are to be shipped to consignees. After that, the coal dust protection screens and dust suppression equipment will be dismantled and the facilities used for loading coal will be equipped to handle containers.
During H1 2021, VSC handled 925 thousand tons of coal.
