Container Traffic via Caspian Basin Ports in June 2021 Down 35.3%

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput via the Caspian basin ports in June 2021 declined by 35.3% year-on-year. Import decreased by 12.6%, cabotage by 30.2%, and export by 57%.

    The share of the Caspian basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in June 2021 made 0.04%.

    Laden container throughput in the Caspian was down 7.1%. Reefer containers were non-existent in June 2021. Imports made 52.9% of all the laden containers, exports accounted for 38.2%, and cabotage for 8.8% of the total.

    Empty container traffic declined by 70.5%.

    The port of Astrakhan accounted for 64.3% of the aggregate container throughput via the Caspian basin ports in June. Olya handled 35.7% of the total.
