During H1 2021 transit container traffic between China and Europe in Russian Railways’ network amounted to 359.7 thousand TEU, up 1.5-fold. Compared to H1 of the pre-pandemic 2019, China – Europe transit surged 2.3-fold.
Laden container traffic between China and Europe made 343.2 thousand TEU including 233.1 thousand TEU carried from China to Europe, up 1.5-fold, and 110.1 thousand TEU from Europe to China, up almost 2-fold.
In terms of weight, containerized cargo transit between China and Europe across Russia made 2.8 mn tons, up 1.6-fold year-on-year.
Commodity-wise, most of the transit is consumer goods, chemical products, cars and parts, engines and machinery.
Car transit from China to Europe amounted to 22.6 thousand TEU, up 2-fold year-on-year and up 3.2-fold on H1 2019. Containerized consumer goods transit from Europe to China grew 1.5-fold year-on-year and 2.6-fold on H1 2019.
