Far East Basin Ports’ Throughput in April 2021: Crude Oil Down

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput via the Russian Far East basin ports in April 2021 increased by 5.9% year-on-year. Export grew by 6.3%, import by 28.3%, and transit surged 2.1-fold. Cabotage, on the contrary, declined by 13.2%

    The share of the Far East basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in April 2021 amounted to 28.3%.

    More than 75% in the Russian Far Eastern ports’ commodity structure is coal, oil and products. In April 2021, coal and coke accounted for 50.2% of the total volume, crude oil for 20.8% and oil products for 7%. Containerized cargo constituted 8.6% of the total.

    It should be noted that the highest growth rate was in the Ro-Ro segment (up 2.4-fold), reefer cargo (up 2.2-fold) and other bulk (grab) (+87.2%).

    The commodities that decreased the most were ferry cargo (-40.4%), metal scrap (-35.2%) and crude oil (-8%).

    Vostochny accounted for 32.2% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Far East basin sea ports in April. Vanino handled 15.9%, and Vladivostok 13.5% of the total.
